home again, home again, jiggity jig

Our last day on the road was much like our first. The highlight, once again, was the "themed" rest areas in Iowa. We stopped at two this time (not counting the old, boring one) and I snapped a few photos.

Again, you can check out the posters that the Iowa DOT .....

another park and the 4th lake

This morning we drove into Cuyahoga Valley National park, found the visitor center, stamped my national park passport book, and chatted with a friendly park ranger. He came over when he saw us consulting the park map and offered his assistance. He suggested, after we told him we had limited ....

Today we took three more states off our "never been" list. When plotting our route home, I noticed that I-84 passes very, very close to the tip of New Jersey. There's a state park in that corner of the state, so we took a short detour off the interstate to drive through the park. We didn't stop ....

After an early morning flurry of activity to get the cars packed and the rental house thoroughly checked for anything left behind, we started the journey home. The kids were on their way to Boston to fly home and John and I took a route that was going to pass through some states ....

acadia day 6

Our last day. We went swimming at Echo Lake. Okay, full disclosure, the kids went swimming, John and I sat on the beach.

For dinner, Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound was legendary in the sense that the wait was so long that it approached legendary status. We went there ....

acadia day 5

We hiked the Wonderland trail near our rental today. It's another kid-freindy hike that is just the right length for the little ones (and us older ones) to handle.

For dinner, we went back to Thurston's for the full lobster dinner experience, after calling ahead ....

acadia day 3

Today we returned to the Park Loop Road at Acadia to visit some places we had scoped out yesterday. We drove out to an overlook where we found our dream house. (It's out at the end of that peninsula in the first photo. You probably can't tell, but that place is HUGE.) Later, we ....

We decided an "easy" day was in order, due to the tiring day we all had yesterday. You would think that sitting in a car all day wouldn't be so exhausting, but it is.

Andrea, Carly, and I went to a grocery store to stock up on some essentials. On the way, we stopped at Little Notch Bakery ....

a little wet

We started Thursday with a very nice breakfast at IHOP, followed by a stop at a Lee Valley store.  Lee Valley is a company that sells high end tools for the avid woodworker and John has been a satisfied customer over the years.  He didn’t find anything he couldn’t live without (or didn’t .....
